01The local picture
Ajax is a working town, and the 401 splits it in half
South of the highway is industrial: distribution units, yards, light manufacturing and the truck movement that comes with them. North of it is residential and retail, spread along Harwood, Westney and Salem, with the older Pickering Village core sitting off to the west. The two halves generate completely different security problems at completely different hours.
The industrial side is quiet and dark from early evening, with long fence lines, trailer yards and material that moves easily.
